

Born April 28, 1919 in Chicago to Joseph Robert and Theresa (Fleischner) Mueller, he married Eileen Jeanette Burke on May 30, 1942 in Chicago. She died June 29, 2003 in Pekin. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Mary Winget, and one son-in-law, Mark Singer.
Surviving are one daughter, Nancy Singer of Wilmette; one son, Joseph P. “Chip” (Marilyn) Mueller of Springfield; four grandchildren, Audrey (Marcel) Ohlig of Heidelberg Germany, W. Bryan (Gretchen) Winget of St. Paul, MN, Abigail Singer of Portland, OR and Mark (Lucy) Singer of Arlington, VA; three great-grandchildren, Tiernan Winget, Sebastian Ohlig and Alexa Singer, and one sister, Dolores Heinze of Morton Grove.
Joe served in the United States Navy during WWII from 1944 to 1946.
He worked at Corn Products Company, in Chicago, Argo and finally Pekin as an engineer and construction superintendent, retiring in 1984.
Joe attended Wright College and Armor Institute of Technology, both in Chicago.
He was a longtime member of the American Legion Naval Post in Chicago, the Northwest Turner Society and his beloved Turner Camp in Algonquin, Illinois.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather; a tennis and swimming enthusiast; a lover of music, stories and jokes; a celebrated host and mixologist; and a good friend to many.
Joe was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin.
His funeral Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. Father Michael Andrejek will be the celebrant and Monsignor Timothy Nolan will be the concelebrant. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Joseph’s Home of Springfield, 3306 S. 6th St. Rd, Springfield, IL 62703.
