

She was born on August 20, 1942 in Pekin, the daughter of Alfreda Margaret Mahoney-Parker and Frank Mahoney who preceded her in death. Her stepfather, Marvin Parker also preceded her in death.
She attended Academy of Our Lady High School in Peoria. Joy’s husband James Michael Hartnett preceded her in death on March 22, 2007. They had a loving relationship and raised a family together.
Remaining to cherish Joy’s memories are her son, James Michael (Mandy) Hartnett, Jr.; daughter, Teri (Richard) Cook, grandchildren, Gunnar Hartnett, Ellen (Nicholas) Pitts and great-grandchildren, Giselle Pitts, Rush Pitts and Rexton Pitts.
Joy worked as a travel agent at Cook Travel and retired in 2012. She was recognized as being a winner’s circle for production with Carnival Cruise Lines. Her favorite destination was Alaska. Joy especially loved the arts. She enjoyed time as a volunteer for Peoria Ballet. Joy loved cooking and spending time with family.
Joy was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin, where she volunteered time helping with training Altar servers.
Her private graveside rites will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2025 at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. Father Michael Andrejek will officiate. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
