L. Margaret Newman

Born November 28, 1928 in Bloomfield, Missouri to James Howard and Mildred Evelyn (Giddings) Justice, she married Walter M. “Bud” Newman on March 2, 1947 in Pekin. He died May 19, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Delores Downs; and one half-brother, James Justice.

Surviving are three daughters, Sharon (Tom) Svendsen of Pekin, Gail (Cecil) Williams of Mackinaw, and Denise (Tim) Adkins of Pekin; four grandchildren, Kim (John) Schleifer of Hinckley, Brett (Janet) Von Der Heide of East Peoria, Courtney (Kurt) O’Connor of Bloomington, and Joshua (Kathleen Nolan) Shelton of St. Louis, Missouri; seven step-grandchildren, Tom (Julie) Svendsen, Jr., Trisha (Terry) Meyers, and Todd Svendsen, all of Pekin, Tommorra Ladd of Chillicothe, Steve (Kaarin) Williams of Sneads Ferry, North Carolina, Richard Williams of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Branden (Kristy) Adkins of Geneva; five great-grandchildren; ten step-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Jack (Shirley) Justice of Gravois Mills, Missouri.

Margaret worked at Pekin Insurance for 29 years, retiring in 1992 as a supervisor of Personal Lines.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, reading, time outdoors, and bowling in former years.

Margaret was a kind and gentle soul who was loved by everyone who knew her. Her greatest legacy is the family she leaves behind. She will be greatly missed.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. W. Lloyd Brock will officiate. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
