Larry Lee Emerick

Larry was born on October 10, 1955 in Galesburg, Illinois, to Wallace "Wally" Emerick and Patricia "Pat" (Laisure) Emerick. He was their first born child and took his job as the oldest of 4 brothers very seriously. Raised on farmland in Laura, Larry spent many days farming, fishing, hunting, and blackberry picking. After graduating from Princeville High School, Larry met Sherry Ann Lindhorst at Illinois State University after being introduced through their friends. They were married September 25, 1976, and settled in Bartonville during the blizzard of January 1979.

Larry worked for many years at CEFCU and later Caterpillar, Inc. While he worked hard at his jobs, his real joys in life were cheering on the Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers, just like his dad. He was also a devoted family man and loved visiting with his grandchildren. Larry enjoyed traveling as an adult, and he and Sherry travelled throughout North America with their children and friends. He was filled with important and useless knowledge and could tell you every detail about every trip, including where and when they traveled. His children would say that if they walked into a business with him, chances are Larry knew three people there.

He was a longtime member of Ducks Unlimited and loved deer hunting on the family farm. He had a love of cars, especially Corvettes, though he was never fortunate enough to own one. Larry loved the music of the Beach Boys and enjoyed passing that love onto his family during all of their road trips. He spent much of his life playing golf with his family and friends. After his working years, he enjoyed reading, trivia, chatting with friends, watching golf tournaments, and spending time with his wife. Above all else, anyone who spoke about Larry would say he was a great friend and a kind person.

Larry is survived by his wife, Sherry; his son Brian and wife Lauren; his daughter Michelle Winslow and husband Mark; three brothers, Steve (Deb), Kevin, and Jim; and two grandchildren, Ethan and Avery Emerick. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 8th, with a visitation at 10 a.m., followed by a service at 11a.m. at University United Methodist Church, 2818 N University St, Peoria, IL 61604. Pastor Sheila Kelly will officiate.

The family requests memorials be made to the OSF Healthcare Foundation designated to Lymphedema patients.
