

Born June 17, 1928 in Dixon to Oliver John and Gertrude O. (Baures) Stake, he married L. Mardell Whitley on June 21, 1947 in North Pekin. She died April 24, 2013 in East Peoria. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Albert Stake and Bud Stake; and two sisters, Dorothy Knight and Lorraine Donaldson, who was his twin.
Surviving are two daughters, Patricia (Roger Bessler) Marx of Glasford and Pamela (Mike) White, Sr. of Creve Coeur; three sons, Lawrence “Butch” (Regeana) Stake, Jr. of Delavan, Michael Stake and Ronald (Debbie) Stake, both of Creve Coeur; thirteen grandchildren; and twenty-five great-grandchildren.
Lawrence worked out of Laborers’ Local #165 in Peoria for many years, where he had worked for S.A. Tyler Construction and Best Homes, both in Peoria, D.J. Mahoney Construction in Pekin, and last for P.J. Hoerr Construction in Peoria for the last 26 years. He retired in 1990.
He had served in the Merchant Marines.
Lawrence was a “hard working man” and he enjoyed remodeling older homes.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
