

PEKIN ~ Linda Ann Black, 57, of 224 Indian Creek Drive, passed away at 12:25 a.m. Thursday, October 29, 2009 at her residence.Born April 12, 1952 in Pekin to George R. and Barbara J. (Baxter) Beres, she married John H. Black, Jr. on May 14, 1988 in Pekin. He survives.Also surviving are her parents of Pekin; one daughter, Andrea M. (Shawn) Young of Trivoli; one grandson, Layne A. Young of Trivoli; one sister, Donna J. (Michael) Monn of Pekin; one uncle, Robert J. Baxter of Peoria and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves her mother-in-law, Sharon J. Black of Pekin and a sister-in-law, Susan (Mark) Schwenk of Morton.Linda began her automotive career in 1978 working at her father’s dealership, Beres Motor Co. in Pekin, as cashier for parts and service. When the business was sold to Mid-Town Imports, she continued working as service advisor and advanced to assistant service supervisor. When Mid-Town Imports was sold to Suds of Peoria, she was the warranty and service supervisor and also became the assistant store manager, last working in February of 2009.Linda was a longtime member of the former Delta Theta Tau Sorority in Pekin.She enjoyed her family and especially her grandson, Layne. She also enjoyed gardening, embroidery, cooking and making brownies for her co-workers.Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 31, 2009 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Gary L. Ford will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, October 30, 2009, and also from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, both at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Tazewell Animal Protective Society, 100 Taps Lane, Pekin, IL 61554 or to the Methodist Medical Center Hospice Services, 221 Northeast Glen Oak Avenue, Peoria, IL 61636.
