Marian A. Baer

Marian A. Owens-Baer, 85, of Banner, Illinois, passed away at 11:38 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Graham Hospital in Canton, Illinois. She was born September 23, 1926 in Akron County, Illinois to Elmer and Mary (Martin) Kizer. She married Jesse W. Owens Jr. April 3, 1947. He preceded her in death November 4, 1978 in Pekin, Illinois. She later married Harry J. Baer in May of 1992. He preceded her in death February 2011 in East Peoria.

Surviving are four daughters, Gloria Barnhill of East Peoria, Patricia (William) Nelson of Bartonville, Barbara Turner of Pekin, Diana Hicks of Long Branch, New Jersey; one son, Gerald Owens of Banner, IL; three stepsons, Will Baer of Chillicothe, IL, Ross Baer of Edelstein, IL, Ken Baer of Washington, IL; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and five brothers.

Marian worked for many years at Vogel’s Supermarket in Pekin; she was an avid bowler; she enjoyed quilting, and loved her dog, Suzie. She was a founding member of McArthur Drive Baptist Church in North Pekin, Illinois.

Funeral services for Marian will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012 at McArthur Drive Baptist Church, 109 N. McArthur Drive, North Pekin, IL, with Rev. Dr. Bobby Barnhill officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2012 at the church, and also ½ hour prior to services on Saturday at the church. Graveside services will take place at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Glendale Cemetery in Fillmore, Illinois.

Memorial contributions may be made to McArthur Drive Baptist Church; American Cancer Society; or American Heart Association.
