OBITUARY

Mark Steven Schmit

March 13, 1971September 10, 2021

PEKIN ~ Mark Steven Schmit, 50, passed away Friday, September 10, 2021. He was born March 13, 1971 in Peoria to Jerome and Sandra Schmit, who preceded him in death.

He leaves behind his wife Megan and his son Brendan.

Mark married the love of his life Megan Beach on April 18, 2006, in Groveland, IL.

Mark and Megan were inseparable best friends from the day they met 20 years ago to the time he died in her hands at home.

Mark was a great family man, with a passion for animals. All that knew him could tell you he was a jokester, a true comedian at heart. You would never be able to go long around Mark without cracking a smile.

He work for Charlie’s Aquarium for many years and everyone could see he was someone who was very knowledgeable about the animals and really cared for them. He then became a Veterinarian Technician at Limestone Companion Animal Hospital where he was beloved by his co-workers and clients for his compassion and how he treated every animal as if it were his own. He worked there for 18 years until his death.

Marks passion for his job and work ethic were second to none but he always put his family first. He was an amazing husband and father. His son described him as, "So much fun to be around. Even when he was tired he would be very helpful around the house. He took care of us. We were always laughing and joking around when he was home. He and I did everything together, he was my best friend." Mark filled their home with so much love and joy. Mark made sure there was never a moment he would miss with his wife and son. There was never any doubt of his immense love for his wife and son. Mark had a wonderfully giving heart for those close to him. He was always willing to help a neighbor or friend. He could take a dark moment and add that little bit of wit that could change someone’s mood. It was nearly impossible to stay upset around Mark.

Megan would love to have your stories of Mark to add to a Memory Book she is creating for Brendan. If you have good memories of Mark, please take a moment to email them to Megan at beachmegan@yahoo.com or bring on paper to the visitation.

A graveside service will be held at Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 10 a.m. His visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 16, 2021 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.

I would like to share my condolences with his siblings, which I didn't see mentioned in his obituary. Thoughts and prayers go out to his sister (Debbie Livezey) and brother (Mike Schmit). May you cherish all the memories.

Mark was the best! He has been the face of limestone animal hospital as far back as I can remember. He would jokingly say if our chihuahuas mysteriously end up missing there would be no need to check his house. Thank you for all the years of support with our dogs. You will forever be in our hearts 💕.

The James family sends their deepest sympathies to The family and Mark’s work family at Limestone Animal Clinic. We will miss Mark when we bring Maddie for her visits. Mark was always so kind and compassionate not only to the animals, but to the humans. May your wonderful memories help you through this very difficult time.

Mark was a super nice guy and he was a darned good tech. He was sweet to my dog Pancho whenever I took him to the clinic. I'm hoping for strength for Mark's family, and Limestone Clinic during this sad time.

I am so sorry to Mark's family for your loss. He was so kind and gentle with my cats, and my Aunt Bea had such a crush on him. His sense of humor flowed easily, and he always got my SpongeBob references. 😊 We will miss him, for sure.
