

CREVE COEUR ~ Mary Alice Brinkley, 94, formerly of Groveland Street in Creve Coeur, passed away at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Apostolic Christian Skylines in Peoria. She was also formerly of Saint Joseph Home in West Peoria and Riverview in East Peoria.
Born April 23, 1917 in Grinnell, Iowa to Albert Thomas and Mary Ann (Harter) Swart, she married Husia Ziller Brinkley on October 16, 1937 in Spencer, Iowa. He died April 4, 1990 in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Albert Swart and Ross Swart; and two sisters, Evelyn Hamrick and Edith Walker.
Surviving are two daughters, Pat (Jerry) Jones of Creve Coeur and Sandy (Joe) McFadden of Edelstein; five grandchildren, Diane (Mike) Hemp and Daniel (Michele) Jones, both of Creve Coeur, Thomas (Deborah) Jones of North Port, Florida, Suzanne (Rod) Fitzpatrick of Edelstein, and Matthew (Rachel) McFadden of Indianapolis, Indiana; thirteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren with one birth expected this week; one brother, Wayne Swart of Redondo Beach, California; brother-in-law, Kenneth Salton of Ruthven, Iowa; and sister-in-law, Pat Gross of Spencer, Iowa.
Mary Alice had worked at Hiram Walker and Son in Peoria as a packer in the shipping department, an office worker at Caterpillar, Inc. in East Peoria, and later as a sales clerk at The Gem Box in downtown Peoria. She last worked as a clerk at Heinz Drug Store in Creve Coeur.
She was a charter member of Sacre Coeur Catholic Church in Creve Coeur, where she had volunteered at the former school and was a charter member and past president of the Altar and Rosary Society. She also had been a member of the Creve Coeur Home Extension.
Mary Alice enjoyed sewing and flowers.
Her funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Sacre Coeur Catholic Church in Creve Coeur. Father Attilio Morelli will be the celebrant. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur, where the recitation of the Rosary will be at 4:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
