Mary Ann Deakin

MANITO ~ Mary Ann Deakin, 79, formerly of 6798 Bass Road, passed away at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Pekin Manor.

Born December 20, 1931 in Chicago to Charles E. and Gertrude (Kanne) Underwood, Sr., she married Robert F. Deakin on December 30, 1950 in Pekin.  He died November 21, 2005 in Pekin.  She also was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Kay Deakin and Sherrill A. Slack; two sons, Staff Sergeant Brent Michael Deakin and Brian M. Deakin; and one brother, Charles E. Underwood, Jr. of Pekin.

Surviving are one son, Stephen R. "Steve" (Julie) Deakin of East Peoria; one daughter, Cathy Martin of Manito; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren.

Mary Ann was of the Catholic faith.

She worked 19 years for Pekin Insurance as a CRT Operator, retiring in 1982.

She formerly enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing cards.  She also loved shopping with her good friend Margaret.

A private graveside service will be held at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin.   Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin is in charge of arrangements.
