Mary Ellen Landrey-Coon

PEKIN ~ Mary Ellen Landrey-Coon, 73, of Pekin, passed away at 2:45 p.m. Monday, November 15, 2021 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Born August 15, 1948 in Springfield to Howard and Dorothy Landrey, Sr., she married Richard Coon, Sr. on January 26, 1980 in Pawnee. He survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Seth Coon of Pekin, Tom (Jill) Coon of Kirkland, Washington, and Rique Coon of Pekin; two grandchildren; Dawson Coon of Marquette Heights and Oskar Coon of Georgetown, Texas and one sister, Janet (Butch) Pickett of Pawnee.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Mary was a teacher for Pekin Public Schools District 108 at Washington School in Pekin for many years.

Her graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Elmwood Cemetery in Elmwood, Illinois.

Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Tazewell Animal Protective Society, 100 TAPS Lane, Pekin, IL 61554.

I am so sad to say good bye for now to Mary Ellen. She was an excellent teacher and a good friend. Mary Ellen, Jan Taylor, Angie Brush and I enjoyed so many really good times teaching our students. She was a remarkable teacher and individual.

Mary Ellen and I met when I taught a half day at Willow school and she shared her classroom with me. We went on to enjoy many years of friendship and did a lot of traveling together. She will certainly be missed.

Mary Ellen was a special lady that I worked with at H and R block, tax service, she was so kind , she loved her family and loved doing crafting made many items with her on slow days at work, and enjoyed talking with her on the phone when she taught school in Las Vegas, after her retirement from her job in Pekin school. She was a good friend. She will be missed.

Mary Ellen and I first met at Willow School where we were teaching. Our friendship spanned 40+ years. Throughout the years, we made so many memories, which I will cherish .
