

Born September 5, 1958 in Peoria to Ansel and Martha (Smith) Stringer, he married Cynthia “Cindy” Laney on June 21, 1981 in Lewistown. She survives.
Also surviving are his three children, Bambie (Richard) Brown of Texas, Amanda Stringer of East Peoria, and Joshua (Alicia) Stringer of Pekin; two granddaughters, Karyssa Brown and Taylor Stringer; his mother, Martha Smith of Sunnyland; three brothers, Steve (Karen) Stringer of Texas, Vince (Robbie) Stringer and John (Julie) Stringer, both of East Peoria; three sisters, Sue (Phil) Matthews of Minnesota, Lori Tattersall of Nebraska, and Patty (Evan) Williams of Sunnyland; and one step-brother, Dave (Missy) Smith of Texas.
He was preceded in death by his father; step-mother, Alice Stringer; step-father, Roy Smith; two brothers, Sam Stringer and Allan Stringer; and one step-brother, Ronnie Smith.
A United States Marine Corps veteran, Matt served from February 20, 1976 to February 16, 1979.
Matt worked for Interstate Brands (Butternut Bread Division) in Peoria for 30 years where he was the plant manager when the plant closed in 2013. He had begun working there as a pan catcher on the bread line.
Matt enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. In later years, he enjoyed woodworking.
His memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory, 500 North 4th Street in Pekin. Pastor Evan Williams will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family will honor his wishes to be cremated.
