Born February 3, 1945 in Los Angeles, California to William Fred and Louise Frances (Rust) Johnson, he married Donna Collier of February 8, 1964 in Manhattan Beach, California. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Karen (Todd) Walker of Pekin and Bethany (Jude) Wheeler of Yucca Valley, California; two sons, Timothy (Jessica) Johnson of Pekin and Melvin (Kellye) Johnson, Jr. of Long Beach, California; twelve grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Richard Anthony (Victoria Lynn) Johnson of Pekin; and one sister, Patricia Louise (Roy) Webber of Nampa, Idaho.
Melvin had worked as a painter in his younger years.
Cremation rites will be accorded. There will be no services. Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin is assisting the family with arrangements.
