Born and raised in Pekin, Mike lived a life defined by dedication, generosity, humor, and unwavering love for his family. He shared 55 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Carole (Birdsell) Shane, building a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Mike began his professional career in 1971 at Caterpillar and went on to serve as an Indirect Global Purchasing Manager, a role in which he earned the respect of colleagues and business partners alike. Through hard work, integrity, and leadership, he built a successful career before retiring in 2014.
He was a member of the Pekin Moose, and for a time was the president of Pekin Youth Hockey.
Mike’s greatest joy was always his family. He was a devoted father to his three sons, Eric (Kim) Shane, Andy (Megan) Shane, and Toby (Carrie) Shane. Also, a proud grandfather to Braden and Ryan; Draven and Harper; and Conley, Beckett, Fionna, and Emmett. He treasured every opportunity to spend time with his children and grandchildren, whether sharing stories, offering advice, laughing, or simply enjoying each other’s company. He also loved attending activities for his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Colette (Lowman) Shane and his brother, Steve.
Mike also loved spending time on the golf course, cheering on the Chicago Cubs, relaxing on the beaches at their condo in Florida, and making memories with those he loved most. He had a remarkable sense of humor and was known for being quick witted, kind hearted, and generous. His ability to make people laugh and feel welcome made him a friend to many.
He will be deeply missed and lovely remembered by all who knew him.
