Born March 18, 1957 in Pekin to Charles Leroy and Marilyn Glenda (Samms) Tompkins, he married Ruth L. Stacks on November 26, 2002 in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Michael Tompkins; one stepdaughter, Leslie Kirtley of Pekin; two stepsons, Roger Taylor and Andrew Taylor, both of Pekin; four grandchildren, Asia Rose Kirtley, Montie Kirtley, Autumn Kirtley and Lucas Taylor; one brother, Allen (Brad McBeth) Tompkins of Elmwood; two sisters, Debra Blumthal and Pamela Addams, both of Pekin and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Cindy Jones and three brothers, Chuck Tompkins, Gary Tompkins and Roy Tompkins.
He had served in the United States Army.
Mike loved Jesus and was a member of The Encounter Church in East Peoria. Encounter was his life. He faithfully served the church as its custodian. Mike previously had worked at UnityPoint Health – Methodist in Peoria.
He was a big St. Louis Cardinals fan.
His funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Tracey Pfeiffer will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin.
