EAST PEORIA ~ Myra Jane Bishop, 87, of East Peoria, passed away at 1:45 a.m. Monday, April 17, 2017 at Rosewood Care Center of Peoria.
Myra was born November 9, 1929 in El Paso, IL to Raymond and Lola (Smalley) Choate. In her early years, before children, Myra worked at OSF St. Francis Medical Center and then met her first husband while working at a Kroger grocery store. After raising her children, Myra had worked as a dietary aide for Rosewood Care Center of East Peoria for 20 years, retiring at age 80.
Surviving are her six children, Kenneth (Debbie) Hendrick, Dennis (Jackie) Hendrick of Tucson, AZ, Sandra (James) Higdon of Sparland, Michael (Jackie) Hendrick of Antioch, Jane (Bernie) Tinder of Canton and Lenny (Kelly) Forbes of Marquette Heights; fifteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Broeker and Judy (Jerry) Graner, both of Urbana.
Myra was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Donald Hendrick, Walter Forbes and Ben Bishop; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Hendrick in 1989; one brother, Robert Choate and one sister, Karen Palmisano.
She was a member of Creve Coeur Christian Church.
Myra was devoted to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed her home with her roses, flowers and birds, especially cardinals in her yard. She loved hosting dinner and events and could whip up a delicious meal in the blink of an eye. Myra’s faith was strong as she would read from her Bible first thing every morning.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Rosewood Care Center of Peoria, her roommate Kay and other residents at Rosewood. They also would like to thank Hospice Compassus for the loving care extended to their mother and family members during the last four months of her life.
Her memorial service will be at 1 p.m., Friday, April 21, 2017 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur. The Rev. John E. Plunkett will officiate. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
