

PEKIN ~ Nelson A. Guengerich, 88, of Pekin, passed away at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at his residence.
Born July 19, 1925 in Spring Lake to Phillip and Johanna (Musselman) Guengerich, he married Norma Jean Heiken on August 29, 1948 in Pekin. She died June 19, 2006 in Peoria. He also was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mildred Willock and one brother Ralph Guengerich.
Surviving are one son, Dr. Gary A. Guengerich of Mapleton; one daughter, Jan (Fred) Block of Spring Lake; one grandson, Justin A. (Ashley) Hamann of Warrenton, VA; one great-granddaughter, Evalynn Paige Hamann of Warrenton; one brother, Burton Guengerich of Manito and one sister, Mag Irish of Lincoln.
Nelson was a World War II Army veteran having served in the Pacific Theater.
Nelson worked for Central Illinois Light Company for 42 years, retiring as the Supervisor of the Pekin Electric Department in 1988.
He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pekin. He was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Pekin, where he was a charter member.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. Daniel J. Bishop will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
