Born October 21, 1937 in Sand Prairie Township, rural Tazewell County to William “Bill” C. and Helen C. (Carnahan) Janssen, he married Joyce Ann Gregory on October 27, 1961 in Norfolk, Virginia. She survives.
Also surviving are his three children, Dave Janssen of Pekin, Jodi Dabbs of Normal, and Jim Janssen of Pekin and three grandchildren, Griffin Dabbs of Springfield, Missouri, Ryleigh Dabbs of Normal, and Gabrielle Janssen of Maryland Heights, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Barbara Wrhel and one brother, William “Bill” S. Janssen.
Philip served proudly in the United States Navy.
He graduated from Pekin Community High School in 1955 and was an honorary member of the Pekin Moose Family Center #916.
He had worked at Sherex Chemical for 33 years as a warehouse foreman until retiring in 1995.
He began playing golf on his high school team. This sport grew into a passion for him over the years as he typically played on all seven days of the week and was the Pekin City Champion one year. Philip also had an affinity for attracting squirrel companions.
His graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2024 at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Rev. Judy Doyle will officiate.
