PEKIN ~ Phillip Dale Scott, 74, of Pekin, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished brother, proud uncle, and faithful friend, passed away Wednesday evening, October 14, 2026 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Phillip was born on September 27, 1952, in Russellville, Alabama, to LD Scott and Lucy Irene (Raper) Scott. Phillip lived a life filled with love for his family, a strong faith in God, a generous heart, and a spirit that brought joy to those fortunate enough to know him.
Phillip was blessed to experience love twice in his lifetime. On November 7, 1975, he married Jo Ann Wade, and together they welcomed their beloved daughter, Erin Renae on May 4, 1983. Jo Ann preceded him in death on September 22, 2017. On June 21, 2024, Phillip found love again when he married Melody Feigum.
Phillip is survived by his loving wife, Melody; his daughter, Erin (Bruce) Killen, his four sisters, Sue (Jim) Fletcher, Debbie (Randy) Benton, Donna (Bob) Reiling, and Karen (Chris) Lewis; and his three stepdaughters, Dana Polhemus, Heather (Shane) Smith, and Niki (John) Hartig. Step grandchildren, Brendan (Brenna) Polhemus, Jake Smith, Jordan Smith, Haley Hartig and Tyler Hartig. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, LD and Lucy Irene Scott; his first wife, Jo Ann Scott; his mother-in-law, Mary Andrews; his nephew, Brandon Newcomb; his niece, Melinda Holmes; and his brother-in-law, Robert “Bob” Reiling.
To his nieces and nephews, Phillip was affectionately known as “Funcle,” short for “fun uncle.” It was a fitting name for a man who loved his family deeply and made a lasting impression on those around him. He was the kind of person who showed up when someone needed help, never hesitating to lend a hand. If something needed fixing or doing, Phillip was often the first one there. He was generous with his time, his talents, and his heart. He was also a perfectionist to a fault, wanting everything done just right—a quality his family will surely remember with a smile.
Phillip had two great passions: his Harley-Davidson motorcycles and Alabama football. He loved the freedom of the open road and cheering on his beloved Crimson Tide. Whether talking motorcycles or football, his enthusiasm was unmistakable. And, of course, there was always one familiar rallying cry: “Roll Tide!”
Phillip also had a special love for Disney World, taking too many trips to count over the years. One of his greatest joys was being the family’s unofficial “tour guide,” sharing the magic of Disney with family members who joined him on these adventures. He loved showing everyone the sights, making sure they experienced the fun, and creating memories that would last a lifetime.
At just 19 years old, Phillip began his career at Corn Products, later known as Aventine, where he worked as an electrician for 42 years before retiring in 2013. One of the things he was especially proud of was having the opportunity to work alongside his father at the plant for many years. That time together was something truly special. Throughout his career, Phillip was dedicated not only to his work but also to his fellow employees, serving two terms as Union President.
Phillip was also a longtime member of Grace Baptist Church in Pekin, where he had been a member since 1963. His faith was an important part of his life, and he carried a sincere desire to share the love of God with others.
Phillip leaves behind a legacy of faith, hard work, generosity, and, most importantly, love. He was a husband, a dad, a brother, an uncle, and a friend who will never be forgotten. His family will carry him in their hearts always.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2026 at Grace Baptist Church in Pekin. Pastor Randy Justus will officiate. A time of food and fellowship will follow the service at the church. Private graveside rites will be held in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Baptist Church, 1301 South 14th Street, Pekin, IL 61554.
