Born March 20, 1941 in Elgin to Lyle Charles and Nita Irene Begun Schacht, he married Marcia Jean Born on July 20, 1963 in Arlington Heights.
Surviving are his wife; 1 son, Jeffrey E. (Rev. Kelli Skram) Schacht of York, Pennsylvania; 2 daughters, Cynthia R. (David) Jepsen of Channahon and Susan B. (Iven) Rosheim of Chicago; 5 grandchildren, Sara A. Jepsen, Melissa N. Jepsen, and Andrew D. Jepsen, all of Channahon, Natalie G.S. Schacht and Matthew A.S. Schacht, both of York, Pennsylvania; and 1 brother, Kenneth (Lois) Schacht of Mt. Vernon.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Rev. Schacht received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Carthage College in 1963 and his Master of Divinity degree from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago in 1971.
Rev. Schacht was a retired Lutheran minister, having served parishes in Hartsburg, Mt. Carmel, Stronghurst, and Bartlett, Illinois. He also worked in mission development in Canton, Michigan and served Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton, Wisconsin.
He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Pekin.
He was involved in mentoring Navajo children through Futures for Children.
He enjoyed camping, woodworking, music, and family.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, December 29, 2005at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Pekin, where visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2005. Private burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel.
