PEORIA ~ Richard “Dick” L. Lacey, 66, of Peoria cashed in his chips for the final time at 12:13 p.m., Friday, February 23, 2018 at his residence. Richard was born January 23, 1952 to George W. Lacey Sr. and Dorothy A. (Kucavik) Lacey. Richard is survived by two siblings, one son, his Cadillac, tons of collectibles, and a plethora of friends.
A 1970 graduate of Bergan High School, Richard went on to earn a baccalaureate degree in Administration of Justice and a minor in Psyschology from Southern Illinois University in 1974 on the days he wasn’t partying. He was an athlete who excelled in all athletic endeavors. Most notably basketball, baseball, and especially golf. He once tallied two holes-in-one in a single round. In addition to competing, Richard was an avid fan of Saluki athletics as well as the teams opposing whom his friends wished to win.
Upon graduation, Richard found employment in several different industries. He worked as a safety inspector at Powerton, a substitute teacher, a bartender, and worked both residential and road construction. However, Richard was well known in the area for owning and operating DJ’s tavern on Plank Road during the 1980’s and early 1990’s. He was even more well known for always being the life of the party and being two steps ahead of everyone while creating mischief everywhere that he went. His quick wit and penchant for humor kept all those around him smiling and on their toes, excluding those on the receiving end of his jokes and antics. Richard’s humor was only matched by his fierce loyalty to his friends and willingness to help anyone he cared about regardless of the circumstance. He will be very sorely missed by many friends and family.
Anyone who truly knew Richard knew that calling him a unique individual was an understatement. Richard lived his entire life on his terms.
As such, per his request, cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. A large social gathering will be held in his honor beginning at 6 p.m. on May 19, 2018 at The Stone, 4208 W Pfeiffer Rd, Bartonville, IL 61607.
Memorial contributions may be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.
