Born August 31, 1964, in Peoria, he was the son of Elmer and Loretta (Luncsford) Nelson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ricky Nelson; one sister, Connie Hill; and one nephew, James Melz.
Surviving are his four siblings, Elaine Melz, Terry Hittle, both of East Peoria, Pam Hamm of Astoria and Dennis Nelson of Peoria.
Petey was highly regarded in his community. He served the elderly by doing yardwork and other handyman jobs for his neighbors. He also enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, and being outdoors. His sister, Elaine, remembers fondly a memory of Pettey teaching her to play quarters.
He was a member of South Side Mission Church in Peoria where he found his church family.
There will be no services at this time. Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
