

Born March 25, 1930 in Walnut to Ira Pearl and Gynth “Peg” (Skinner) Stewart, he married Thelma Irene Wieburg on July 26, 1951 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Richard Cole Stewart and Alan Scott Stewart, both of Pekin; and many nieces and nephews.
His parents and eleven brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War.
Richard worked at Caterpillar, Inc. for over 30 years, retiring in 1985 as a supervisor in East Peoria. He also owned and operated Stewart’s Grocery in Pekin during the 1970’s with his wife.
He was a member of First Christian Church in Pekin and was a former member of the Pekin Moose Family Center #916.
Richard enjoyed traveling and was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. He also had coached the Stewart’s Upper 10 Baseball Team in past years.
His memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2012 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin, where visitation will be one hour before the service. The Rev. Michael Roberts will officiate. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin at a later date.
