

Born July 31, 1915 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Thomas and Edna Hastings, he married Gladys Neola Brennaman on December 28, 1950 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Thomas Hastings of Dalton, Georgia and Robert Allan Hastings of Pekin; and one sister, Alyce C. Redel of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister (Susan Harmon).
Robert worked for Quaker Oats Company in Pekin for 50 years, retiring as office manager in 1984.
He served in the United States Army Signal Corps during World War II.
He was a member of First Christian Church in Pekin. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge in Marion, Ohio. He had volunteered many hours for Pekin Red Cross blood drives. He had also been a Boy Scout leader in Pekin.He was an avid golfer, winning many awards including, the Marion, Ohio Country Club Championship in 1958, the Kenmore Class A Championship in 1931, and the Low Gross Championship in the Cedar Rapids Industrial League in 1957.
Local visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2006at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.
His funeralwill be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2006at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories in Cedar Memorial Park in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the funeral. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park.
