

PEKIN ~ Robert Junior Monroe, 84, of 343 South 4th Street, Apartment 406, passed away at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, February 24, 2011 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was formerly of Topeka.
Born May 19, 1926 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to Robert J. and Clella (Bracket) Monroe, he married Susan L. May on January 10, 1976 in Pekin. She survives.Also surviving are five children, including, Kara (Scott) Langloss of Pekin and Frank (Linda) Monroe of Jackson, MO; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Zachary Robert Langloss, Isaac Langloss and Lauren Langloss; and two sisters, Louise Jenks of Imperial, MO and Marg (Garry) Smith of Fulton, KY.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two children and two brothers, Daniel Monroe and Bill Monroe.
Bob was a World War II Army Air Forces veteran.
A member of Teamsters & Chauffeurs Union Local 627 in Peoria, Bob worked for KMI Packaging & Exporting in Pekin for 15 years, retiring in 1984.
Bob was an outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin.
His memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin, where visitation will be one hour before the service. Father Timothy Nolan will officiate. Military rites will be accorded.
