
Born July 27, 1936 in Pekin to William Alexander and Frances Marie (Foster) Alexander-Mickle; he married Zylpha “Jane” Watt on November 18, 1960. She passed away on June 23, 2022. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Charles Mickle and one son, Matthew Alexander.
Surviving are one daughter, Mary Beth Lind of Pekin; two grandsons, Travis (Corrine) Lind of Okeana, Ohio and Douglas Scott Alexander; several great-grandchildren; one brother, Fritz (Pat) Alexander of Pekin and one sister Judith (Ken) Mutchler of Pekin.
Roger served honorably in the United States Navy, demonstrating his commitment to his country. Following his military service, he embarked on a long and successful career as a self-employed over-the-road truck driver, a profession he pursued for over 47 years until his retirement in 2002.
Roger had a deep love for family time and found joy in wood turning, particularly in crafting pens and bowls. His passion for helping others was evident in his volunteer work with the cancer society, where he made wig stands for those in need.
He was also a past president and active member of the local Toastmasters group, volunteered with DeMolay, served as the former captain of the Rescue Squad and was a member of the Civil Defense in Tazewell County.
Roger was a member of First Christian Church of Pekin for over 70 years.
His graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, February 6, 2026 at Glendale Memorial Gardens. Pastor Dick Brienen will officiate. Arrangements are entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
