

PEKIN ~ Roland Charles Martin, Sr., 82, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2017 in Pekin.
He was born in Pekin, IL on May 13, 1934 to Nathan and Henrietta Mae (Hinson) Martin, he married Rienettie Rose Turnpaugh Wilson on February 23, 1964.
Roland served his country with United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He retired from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office in Phoenix, Arizona and also retired as a Security Guard from CBS Television Center in Studio City, CA. During his life he lived many different places and experienced life to its fullest. He lived the last 20+ years in Studio City, CA with his wife enjoying life on the West Coast. He was a big fan and loved watching the Chicago Cubs. He loved spending time working crossword puzzles, studying rocks and minerals and taking walks. The last nine months of his life he moved back to Pekin, his home town, to be near his siblings. Roland attended First United Methodist Church in Pekin.
His wife Rienettie died, April 19, 2016 in Gilbert, Arizona. He was also preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, five sisters and two grandsons.
Roland is survived by son, Roland C. “Chuck” Martin, Jr., son, Herb Wilson, daughter, Regina Rose Lemos (& Vance Lemos), granddaughter, Rachael Rose Ridley (& Mark Ridley), great-grandchildren: Eliza, Alan, Rhiannon Rose and Layne Charles, brother, Allen L. Martin (& Carole Martin) of Pekin and nieces and nephews. Roland was a very easy person to carry on long conversations with and always had a great story to tell. He will be forever loved & greatly missed.
Private family graveside service will be held in the City of Mesa Cemetery in Mesa, Arizona. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin, Illinois.
