

MANITO ~ Roy W. Gargus, 75, of 13649 Laurel Street, passed away at 10:46 a.m. Friday, April 9, 2010 at the Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.Born Sept. 1, 1934 in rural Otterville, MO to George and Minnie (Geotz) Gargus, he married Eulah F. Eldert on June 19, 1956 in Tokyo, Japan. She survives.Also surviving are one son, Roy W. (Judy) Gargus, Jr. of Peoria; three daughters, Gail Williamson of Pekin, Carla (Rich) Pherigo and Lori (Edward) Houston, both of Manito; seven grandchildren, Melissa (Andrew) Joesting, Sarah Pherigo, Jordan Pherigo, Michael Houston, Kelly (James) Rupp, Angie (Dustin) Smith and Crystal Pherigo; five great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Pherigo, Shelby Pherigo, Waylon Joesting, Shannon Wilson and Matthew Roby and one sister, Irene North of Missouri.He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ralph Lee Gargus.A Korean War Army veteran, Roy was proud of his service as a military policeman. Following graduation from DeVry University, Roy worked for Zenith Radio in Chicago until 1967. He then moved to Pekin and owned and operated Pekin TV Sales and Service until the 1990s.He was a private pilot and an avid fisherman. He was a longtime member of William Schaefer American Legion Post 44 in Pekin.His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 12, 2010at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. Gary L. Ford will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 11, 2010at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, with military rites accorded by the United States Army and the Tazewell Military Rites Team.Memorial contributions may be made to Tazewell Animal Protective Society, 100 Taps Lane, Pekin, IL 61554 or to the Forman Ambulance Service, 205 North Broadway, Manito, IL 61546.
