Ruby Faye Layne

Born July 3, 1941 in Cumberland, Kentucky to DeWitt T. and Easter E. (Mitchell) Spurlock, she married Layton Jerry Layne on March 26, 1959 in Peoria. He died September 25, 2018.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Gerri Layne; two sisters, Dora Creech and Margaret Ginger; three brothers, Clyde Spurlock, John Spurlock, and Harry Spurlock and one stepdaughter, Kathy Layne.

Surviving are their daughter, Christy (Peter) Shaw of Pekin; one step-son, Steve (Susan) Layne of Manito; ten grandchildren, Jeremy, Nichole, Ronnie, Lynn, Lisa, Brian, Mike, Missy, Angie and Sherry; sixteen great-grandchildren, Ryder, Macy, Giana, Garin, Wren, Makayla, Cody, Logan, Ariana, Cindy, Dustin, Taylor, Joey, Layne and Emily; two sisters, Kim (Glen) Hake of Nashville and Jeannie (Bill) Green of Pekin; and two brothers, DeWitt (Sherry) Spurlock, Jr. of Pekin and Grant Spurlock of East Peoria.

Ruby owned and operated Pekin Auto Storage Pool for 30 years with her husband Jerry, retiring in 1999.

Both her and Jerry were avid Chicago Cubs fans. Ruby also enjoyed reading and tending to her flower gardens.

Her visitation will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2026 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Burial will be at Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin.
