

Born June 28, 1926 in Malone Township, Tazewell County to Cesar Lavel and Martha Agnes (Parkins) Dean, she married Jack W. Shannon on April 5, 1947 in Pekin. He died June 16, 1985 in Pekin. She also was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Surviving are one son, Dennis (Dorinda) Shannon of Pekin; one daughter, Mallory Shannon of Pekin; five grandchildren, Christopher (Jessie) Shannon of Germantown, Wisconsin, Corey Shannon, Erik Follis, Travis Follis and Randy Fuller, all of Pekin; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Terry (Vivian) Dean of Corydon, Indiana and Al (Nancy) Dean of Brownsville, Texas.
Ruth was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pekin, where she belonged to the United Methodist Women, the Naomi-Rachel Circle, the Evangelism and Membership Committee. She also enjoyed volunteering for her church.
She retired from Pekin Insurance in 1988 after 19 years of service, last working as the credit claims supervisor in the life company. She also worked in civil service for many years, first in Seattle, Washington and then in Germany. She had also worked for Saginaw Valley College as the Secretary to the Dean of Students and Faculty.
She had been a member of the Pekin Emblem Club #424, serving as president five times.
Her memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory. Rev. Judy Doyle will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
