

Born February 17, 1921 in Allen County, Kentucky to Samuel Edward and Sally Ann (Temple) McIntyre, III, he married Pauline G. Durham on November 25, 1947 in Pekin. She died March 7, 1996 in Pekin. He later married Mary A. (Westrope) Miller on December 13, 1997 in Pekin. She died January 3, 2019 in Pekin. He also was preceded in death by his parents; one stepson, Jon Brent Miller; three brothers and seven sisters.
Surviving are one son, Dr. Brian (Rebecca) McIntyre of Pekin; one daughter, L. Elaine McIntyre of Pekin; three step-daughters, Sue (Denny) Crowell of Pekin, Christy Steckelberg of Rochester, Minnesota and Gail (Bryan) Whitton of Pekin; three grandchildren, Elizabeth (Jeremiah) Osteen, Katherine McIntyre and Gwen McIntyre; nine step grandchildren, Seth Crowell, Erin Jordan, Samantha Dawson, Christopher Miller, Chelsea Weinstein, Rachel Steckelberg, Kathryn Handlogten, Kelly Whitton and Brent Whitton; eight step great-grandchildren and one sister, Patty Oliver of Scottsville, Kentucky.
He was a World War II Army veteran and had served in the Pacific Theater.
Gus was a longtime employee at Corn Products Company in Pekin and retired in March of 1983 from Pekin Energy.
He was a 73-year member of First Baptist Church in Pekin, where he served the church as a former chair of the Trustees, a Deacon, a custodian and a member of the building committee. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling with the Roadrunners senior group at the church. He also was a volunteer escort at Pekin Hospital in retirement.
He was an avid golfer. Gus was proud to have been bestowed the honor of Kentucky Colonel in July of 1979 by the Governor of Kentucky.
His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 28, 2021 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Vernon Risner will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin, with military rites accorded by the United States Army.
