Shannon L Elliott

Born July 8, 1953 in Toledo, Ohio to Virgil and Ruby (Bigelow) Haggard, she married Franklin Velez. She later married Gregory S. Elliott in 1989 in Pekin. He passed away in 2005 in Trivoli. She also was preceded in death by three sisters, Darla Matos, Crystal Murrell and Sherry Medina.

Surviving are two sons, Anthony and Patrick Velez; five grandchildren, Gabriel Velez, Sierra Velez, Aspen Velez, Parris Velez and Madilynn Velez; four brothers, Virgil Haggard, Robin Haggard, both of Pekin, Timothy Haggard and William “Bill” Haggard, both of Peoria and two sisters, Carol Haggard of Pekin and Lori Waldon of Peoria.

Shannon worked for Usco-Uselton Oil Co. in Pekin as a station manager for 15 years, retiring in 2013. She enjoyed her work at USCO because her customers quickly became friends.

She enjoyed crocheting, loved watching super hero movies and professional wrestling on television.

Her family was especially important to her and she will be missed by her dog, Saint.

A visitation celebrating her life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, November 16, 2014 at the Twisted Spoke Saloon at 251 Derby St. in Pekin. Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with final expenses.
