Shayla Rae Wertz

Born July 11, 1996 in Pekin, she was the daughter of Shawn Allen and Lori Ann (Fortna) Wertz.

Surviving are her mother, Lori Wertz of Pekin; her father, Shawn Wertz of Forest City; her fiancé, David Capps of Pekin; one daughter, Maizie Jean Capps of Pekin; three step-children, Gage Boker, Jett Daniels and Taylor Capps, all of Pekin; one sister, Shawna Wertz of Pekin; one brother, Chad (Natosha) Fortna of Scottsdale, Arizona; her maternal grandmother, Jacqueline Fortna of Pekin and her paternal grandfather, Lewie Wertz of Pekin. She also leaves an extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins.

A 2014 graduate of Midwest Central High School, Shayla also attended Illinois Central College.

She was an awesome mother and homemaker who had a smile that would fill any room. Shayla was an optimistic and outspoken person that was full of life.

She enjoyed kayaking, playing disc golf and riding 4-wheelers.

Her visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, November 2, 2023 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Cremation will be accorded following the visitation. There will be no funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to an account for her daughter, Maize, in care of the family.
