Sheldon "Pete" Simon

Born April 2, 1933 in Canton to Ralph William and Beulah Caroline Zimmerman Simon, he married Phyllis I. Brown on July 2, 1955 in Canton. He later married Louise Prowell in September 1983 in Pekin. She died May 8, 2001.

Surviving are 1 daughter, Penny D. Rose of Pekin; 1 son, Michael W. Simon of Pekin; and 1 grandson, Matthew Rose of Pekin.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Pete worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 30 years, retiring from the Mapleton foundry as a coremaker in 1985. He then worked in maintenance at the Pekin Public Library for 13 years.

He enjoyed building and operating remote control model airplanes and boats, fishing, Western movies and TV shows, and spending time with his grandson.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m., Monday, April 17, 2006at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, with military rites provided by the Tazewell Military Rites Team. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to services. Rev. Mark D. Friday will officiate. Private burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Fairview.
