

She was born September 25, 1922 in Logan Township, Peoria County to Lemond and Jessie (Moore) Wagner. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald L. “Jerry” Smith; one daughter, Janet F. Heberer; one great-granddaughter, Amanda Dixon; one sister, June Barker and two brothers, Frederic Wagner and Dean Wagner.
Surviving are one daughter, Karen R. (James L.) Bowman of Pekin; four grandchildren, James M. (Karen J.) Bowman of Manito, Diana L. (Keith Stevens) Jones of Taylorsville, UT, Eric L. Heberer of Pekin and Vivian “Boots” (Tad) Dixon of Phoenix, AZ; seven great-grandchildren, Michael, Darius, Chris, Amber, Karrie, Ricky and Andrew; ten great-great-grandchildren and two half-sisters, Phyllis Sutton of Peoria and Susan Wagner of Olympia, WA. She also leaves her son-in-law, Lloyd Heberer of Pekin.
Shirley retired from Pekin Hospital, where she worked in the Housekeeping Department for more than 15 years. In earlier years she had worked at the former Isolina Hotel in downtown Pekin.
She was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan and her hobby was buying trinkets.
Shirley attended Pekin First Church of God.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday, November 2, 2015 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Kim Bacon will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in Smithville Cemetery.
