

Born August 3, 1931 inPekin to Nelson and Elizabeth (Behrends) Hundt, she married Lawrence Nelson "Midge" Parkin on May 1, 1954 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. He died December 21, 1997 in Pekin. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Tobi Lynn McGinnis on May 21, 1993 in Pekin and two brothers, Richard Hundt and Melvin Hundt.
Surviving are three daughters, Kim L. (Alan) Hall of Pekin, Joy C. (Bill) Stalzer of Kewanee and Kelly D. (Scott) Neikirk of Pekin; two sons, Vann S. (Sue) Parkin of Edwardsville and Terry M. (Lori) Parkin of Pekin; fifteen grandchildren, Mary (Andy) Cave of Monticello, Kelly Hall of Springfield, Matt Hall of Normal, Lindsay Stalzer of France, Rachel Stalzer of West Lafayette, Indiana, Nick Stalzer of Kewanee, Adam McGinnis of Iowa City, Iowa, Jaclyn Parkin of Champaign, Lauren Parkin, Shaun Parkin, both of Edwardsville, Ashley McGinnis, Karis Parkin, Karlee Parkin, Collin Harris and Chase Antonini, all of Pekin and one brother, Larry (Mary) Hundt of Forest City. She also leaves a son-in-law, Bradley A. (Shellie) McGinnis of West Lafayette, Indiana.
A registered nurse, Shirley was a 1952 graduate of the Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing in Peoria. Shirley worked for Midwest Central School District 191 in Manito from 1966 to 1997, where she was the school nurse.
She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed watching NASCAR races.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday,November 2, 2007at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. Father W. Patrick Fixsin will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, November 1, 2007at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin.
