

Sonya Sue Thompson, of Glasford, Illinois, passed away on March 4, 2026. Born June 8, 1939 in Peoria, Illinois, she was the daughter of Raymond Dean Martin and Wanda Faye Stephens. She married James William (Pete) Thompson on July 19, 1957 in Glasford, Illinois. Sonya faithfully attended Glasford Baptist Church.
Sonya Sue Thompson devoted her life to loving God and loving people. A dedicated wife and mother, she joyfully poured herself into raising five children and building a home marked by warmth, faith, and steady care. She was the spiritual anchor of her family—a prayer warrior who loved Scripture and led with quiet strength, kindness, and perseverance.
Creative and industrious, she had a gift for making spaces beautiful through decorating and flower arranging, and she gave that same beauty to others through encouragement and service. To many, she was not only a mother, but a spiritual mother—fiercely loyal, deeply compassionate, and faithful through every season.
She was preceded in death by:
• her sons, Martin Ray Thompson and Craig Aaron Thompson
• her sister, Patricia Gollon, and brother-in-law, John Gollon
• her granddaughter, Christa Pate
She is survived by:
• her daughters, Trina Pate (Walt) and Jill Hsieh (Jon)
• her daughter, Arleta Cowell (Jack)
• seven grandchildren
• four great-grandchildren
A Celebration of Life will be held at Glasford Baptist Church on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at 10:30 a.m., with a meal to follow. Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory. There will be no burial.
