Born October 7, 1924 in Dover, Arkansas to Edard and Ora Bell (Ingram) Simmons, she married Charles Luther Young on May 25, 1944 in East Prairie, Missouri. Sue spent most of her early adult life in Missouri. Mr. Young died September 26, 2012 in Pekin. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Bill Simmons and three sisters, Lola Kirk, Imogene Tinnon and Lova Dickson.
Surviving are one daughter, Susan (Mike) Greene of Pekin; one grandson, Aaron (Kristine) Greene of Lincoln, California; two brothers, John (Shirley) Simons of Shertz, Texas and Lee (Wally) Simmons of Bartonville; one sister, Jo (James) Clayborn of Columbia, Missouri and numerous nieces and nephews.
An avid gardener, Sue retired after many years working in the cafeteria and teacher’s lounge at Pekin Community High School District 303.
She formerly attended First Baptist Church in Pekin.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, October 29, 2021 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Louie Kunz will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Entombment will follow in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
