Born June 23, 1929 in Pekin to Vern and Lydia (Clark) Batton, she married William L. “Robbie” Robertson on October 25, 1951 in Alton. He died on April 27, 2000 in Pekin. She also was preceded in death by one brother, Dean Batton and two sisters, Velma Pechmann and Ruby Barbour. Thelma was especially close to Velma, who was her twin.
Surviving are one daughter, Gail Williams of Tremont; two grandchildren, Rob Williams of Tremont and Sara Dexter of Tremont; seven great-grandchildren, Grant Williams, Blaine Williams, Alleigh Williams, Jake Williams, Elle Williams, Blakely Dexter and Kipton Dexter and many nieces and nephews.
Thelma and her husband resided in Spring Hill, Florida from 1980 to 1998. She worked at the St. Petersburg Times while in Florida. She previously had worked at Central Illinois Light Company and for Lincoln Service.
Thelma liked sports and particularly like to follow baseball. She had a special affinity for the St. Louis Cardinals.
She enjoyed crocheting and being near the beach or a pool swimming. Thelma was also a big card club player and hosting her family, especially while living in Florida.
She was a former member of Morton United Methodist Church.
A celebration of life gathering will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin, with a sharing of memories held at noon. Burial of her ashes will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin at a later date.
