

Born in Peoria on Jan. 9, 1959 to Marvin A. & Dixie Lee (Carlson) Strube. Tonya married George A. Winter on Dec. 27, 1977 in Moberly, MO, and he survives, along with their three sons, Travis A., Trevor R., and Tristan A. Winter all of Glasford. Also surviving are her mother and step-father, Dixie & Leslie Parrish of Glasford; three grandchildren, Anne Marie Rutledge and Cody Lee Winter of Elmwood, and Caiden Martin-Winter of Bartonville; her brothers, Troy A. (Joyce) Strube of Glasford, Tad A. (Mary Laswell) Strube of Havana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Marvin in 2001; her maternal grandparents, Jack and Madge (Baty) Carlson of Glasford; her paternal grandparents, Henry and Veda (Pemberton) Strube of rural Havana; and her aunt, Marvel Lee Mendenhall of Havana.
Tonya was raised in Glasford and attended Illini Bluffs Schools. She received an Associate’s in Arts & Sciences from Illinois Central College in 1982. She later returned to school when her children were older and graduated Summa Cum Laude, with a Bachelor’s of Science from Bradley University in 1994, majoring in Psychology and Social Services. She is a member of Phi Kappa Phi Notional Honor Society.
Tonya was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Glasford. She believed that she had been called to serve, and most enjoyed her role as an advocate for others. She worked at various agencies and Nursing Homes in the Peoria area, including Catholic Charities’ Garden Angel Home and Peoria City/County Health Department’s Maternal Child Health and Healthworks Programs. She later found her niche in long-term care and served as Social Service Director at Lutheran Home at Lutheran Hillside Village, Pekin Manor at Liberty Village of Pekin, and Farmington Country Manor in Farmington, where she was currently employed, Tonya also loved spending time with her family and grandchildren, rock hunting, traveling, planting trees, and beautifying God’s garden with perennials and other flowers.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 2010 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Glasford, with the Rev’s. Jill Flynn and Paul Park officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Woolsey Funeral Home Glasford Chapel in Glasford, and also one hour before services at Church on Friday. Cremation will be accorded following services with burial of ashes at Lancaster Cemetery in Glasford at a later date.
Memorial contributions in Tonya’s memory can be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Farmington Country Manor’s Activity Fund, or the Timber Hollis Fire Department.
