She was born February 22, 1925 in Cincinnati Township in Pekin. Daughter of Cecil M. and Martha K. (Eeten) Grigsby. Both parents preceded her in passing along with one sister, two brothers, three stepbrothers, one stepson, grandchildren and many friends.
Surviving are her daughter, Rebecca L. Laffey and her son-in-law J. David Laffey of Pekin; one stepson, Rickey D. (Chris) Coats of Madison and one sister, Nora E. Krohn of Hopedale. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Violet worked at the American Distillery thirty-five years doing varied jobs until its closing. She was a lifetime member of Congregational United Church, the Moose Lodge and the American Legion for many years.
She loved to be outdoors, to fish, and work in her yard and garden, as well as sitting in her swing to read or just watch nature. She loved to cook and spend time with her family and friends as well as spending time at her exercise classes. She was always excited about traveling, near and far.
Violet was a caring, giving and loving woman who will be greatly missed by all who knew her and those whom she touched.
There will be a graveside service at Glendale Memorial Gardens on Route 9 in Pekin at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2022.
As you join us in saying farewell, at Violets request, she would love to see everyone in beautiful and bright colors.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
