

Born April 3, 1940 in Pekin to Virgel Fredrick Sr. and Pearl Elizabeth Peacher Hartsock, he married Marilyn Ann Conway on August 21, 1960 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Chet M. (Beth) Hartsock of Naperville, Bryan D. (Julie) Hartsock of Geneva, and James C. (Jennifer) Hartsock of Goodfield; six grandchildren, Nicole C. Hartsock, Tyler W. Hartsock, and Brandon J. Hartsock, all of Naperville, and Emily S. Hartsock, Joshua B. Hartsock, and Alyxandria G. Hartsock, all of Geneva; one brother, Grant (Rose) Hartsock of Canton; one sister, Sharon (Rev. Dennis) Fitzgerald of Elmwood; one half-brother, Gary (Aletha) Magnason of Missouri; and step-mother, Virginia Hartsock of Pekin.
His father preceded him in death.
He was a graduate of Bradley University in Peoria where he received a bachelors of Science degree in mathematics.
A United States Army veteran, he served from August 20, 1963 to August 19, 1965.
Virgel worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 35 years, retiring in 2000 as a project leader in network services at building AD in East Peoria. He previously worked at Keystone Steel and Wire Company in Bartonville for several years.
He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Pekin.
Virgel enjoyed his grandchildren, family, home, and fishing. He was a Saint Louis Cardinals baseball fan.
His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2005at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Kenneth Seest and Rev. Dennis Fitzgerald will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin where military rites will be accorded by the United States Army.
