PEKIN ~ Virginia L. Mathias, 99, of Pekin, passed away at 10:10 a.m. Thursday, November 11, 2021 in Pekin.

Born September 6, 1922 in Pekin to Henry William and Mary Sophia (Lauss) Herren, she married Earle F. Mathias on September 6, 1942 in Pekin. He died May 24, 1990. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Dennis Ray Mathias on October 11, 2021; her son-in-law, Douglas Ramme on October 19, 2011 and five sisters, Dorothy Young, Florence Eertmoed, Lorraine Bergman, Louise Creglow and Pauline Bolson. An honorary brother, Melvin Guile also preceded her in death.

Surviving are one daughter, Kandis Ramme of Montgomery, Alabama; one daughter-in-law, Cindy Mathias of Pekin; five grandchildren, Chad (April) Ramme of Green Valley, Shannon (Charles) Trotter of Montgomery, Alabama, Kayla (Charley) Connell of Pekin, Matt (Colleen) Mathias of Chillicothe and Nicole (Scotty Gregory) Mathias of North Pekin and nine great-grandchildren. The family is looking forward to the birth of Virginia’s 10th great-grandchild in January.

Virginia was a lifelong Pekin resident. She worked in the Tazewell County Treasurer’s Office for 16 years, retiring in 1986 as Deputy Collector. She previously had worked at Pekin National Bank. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pekin. Her church and her faith were always important to her. She also was a member of the Izaak Walton Conservation Club and Pekin Hospital Auxiliary.

She enjoyed wintering in Yuma, Arizona for many years and loved to gamble, play cards and in recent years, play Bingo at the Miller Center in Pekin. She was a people person and also loved fishing, camping and taking long morning walks through the years.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. Judy Steger Kennedy will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

Kande and family, I was just scrolling thru FB and saw video of your Mother’s Funeral! I don’t get the paper so I didn’t know of her passing!
My sincere sympathy to you-I loved her and have so many good memories of Virginia and Louise! What wonderful times our families enjoyed! Your Mom was ALWAYS so sweet to me! You take care!
