Winifred Leonia Adkins

She was born on December 16, 1927 in Reading, England, a daughter of Reginald and Gladys (Draper) Barnes. Winifred married John H. “Jack” Adkins on September 10, 1966 in Pekin. He preceded her in death on March 3, 2004.

Winifred was also preceded by her parents; one stepson, John T. “Terry” Adkins; and one sister; Jean M. Wright.

She is survived by one grandson, John T. (Nicole) Adkins of South Pekin; one granddaughter, Stacey (Earl) Candler of Manito; one great-grandson, Nicholas Malavoti; and family in England.

Winifred was a homemaker and worked several jobs over the years. She loved fishing, gardening, and knitting.

Her graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 6, 2026 at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Pastor Judy Doyle will officiate.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
