I met Sherwood Florence when he came to Pelham Police Department from Birmingham Police Department. He impressed me when he first walked into the dispatchers office, shook hands, and introduced himself. He was nice to every prisoner, and to each of his co-workers. I never heard him raise his voice in anger, or lose his temper over the few years I worked with him. I saw him at the courthouse not llong ago, and we had a good long talk about our good, and not so good times we had at Pelham. He was one of the nicest people that I have ever worked with. Rest in Peace Sherwood, until we meet again!

I always enjoyed seeing Sherwood no matter where he was. Running into him here and there he always had a smile on his face and he greeted you like a long lost friend. I taught his two children, a great parent, husband, and father. Sad to hear of his passing and my sympathy to his family. He will truly be missed by all.

We will always miss your having been our neighbor in Chandalar! There wasn't a finer, more respected family that we were lucky enough to call our friends! God bless your family and may you rest in peace with the angels!

Sherwood was a great friend to many. We shared a lot of stories about people we both knew. He looked after us girls at the Courthouse. We loved him and he will be greatly missed.

I am so sad to hear this news. I only knew Sherwood while at Southwest High School and we were on the cadet ROTC staff together. He was a really nice guy and well liked by all. Many fond memories. RIP Sir!

Sherwood and I go back to the days when I was an Assistant District Attorney and he was a Pelham detective. We worked a lot of cases together, he was always very professional. In later years, when he was working the front door as a Courthouse Officer he was always friendly and helpful to everyone coming through the door. He was the officer assigned to Mental Health Court and always treated the defendants with great respect and tried to give them an encouraging word if they were having trouble. Sherwood was a good, compassionate cop. He was my friend and I will miss him. Be with God and Rest In Peace my friend.

Sherwood (as known by the courthouse staff) was one of the most down to earth bright spots in my day! I have missed his genuine kindness and humor at the front door since he retired. I always looked forward to working with him on Mondays and Tuesdays. Getting his coffee was just an excuse to crack a few jokes and get the day going on a positive note. I’ll miss exchanging stories of love for family and weekend soccer games. Sherwood, I’ll get you a regular... Rest In Peace my friend. You are missed.

My condolences on the passing of a fine man and dear friend. Sherwood and I spent many nights working at Pelham and he taught me a lot about police work and life.
