Allan Dozier of Chelsea, Alabama, died July 4, 2026, after a brief illness. Allan was born January 5, 1944, in Putnam County, WV. He was the son of the late Ronnal Dozier and Cora Moore Dozier. A veteran of the US Air Force, he went on to serve the public as a West Virginia State Trooper. He loved that job and was always proud of the Troopers. He held many careers in his lifetime, but relocated to Birmingham in 2012 for the one he loved most: Grandfather. He was so proud of his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Rawlings of Charleston, WV. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sarita Ratliff Dozier of Chelsea, AL, daughter Kathy Dozier Elkins (Jeff) of Birmingham, AL, grandchildren Tyler Elkins (Hannah) of Charlotte, NC, Jessica Elkins of Washington, DC, Dr. Jacob Elkins of Golden, CO, and sister Gayle Bautz of Phoenix, AZ. He was so looking forward to the birth of his first great-grandchild later this year.
Also missing him are his sisters in law, whom he loved like his own children: Debbie Ratliff (Robin) of Grand Island, FL, Tammy Ratliff of Princeton, WV, Dee Ratliff Snider (Derek), and Zoey Snider (Sammy) of Peterstown, WV.
Allan enjoyed playing golf with his friends each Thursday and anything and everything his grandchildren did. He will be missed every day.
Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, July 9, from 4-7 PM at Southern Heritage Funeral Home on Highway 119 in Pelham, AL. Graveside services in West Virginia will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations in Allan’s name be made to the West Virginia State Troopers Association.
