Martina graduated from LSU before earning her Masters in Education Degree from UAB. Her long and successful career in public education culminated in her teaching position at Vestavia Hill High School.
Martina was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. In her leisure, she enjoyed interaction with her grandchildren and gardening.
Survivors include Martina's husband, Edward Norton, to whom she was married on November 18, 1978; three children, Meryl Flynt, Amy Bartz, and Josh Norton; five grandchildren; her sixth grandchild on the way; one sister, Marcie Shepherd; and two brothers, David Shepherd and Mike Shepherd.
The family will visit with friends at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama on Thursday, July 20, 2023 from 6-7 p.m., followed by A Service of Remembrance for Martina at 7 p.m. at Ridout's Southern Heritage, Pelham.
