Annie Lou Busby Gossett

Annie Lou Busby Gossett, age 93, of Chelsea, Alabama, went to be with our Lord on June 27, 2023. She was born in Walker County, Alabama on December 3, 1929 to Shadric Dempson Busby and Queenie Busby. She was one of seven children born to her family.

"Ann" was married to Ellis Monroe Gossett, Jr. for 54 years until his passing in 2002. They were parents of two children, Ellis Monroe "Buddy" Gossett, III and Patricia Ann "Patti" Gossett. They raised their family in Birmingham, Alabama, in the community of Minor.

Ann was an active member in her church as a Sunday School teacher. She participated in many school support roles during her children's school years.

Ann worked in retail and was a Credit Manager for JC Penney for a number of years. She was loved by all who met her. She was of a quiet nature and enjoyed reading, growing flowers and taking care of her family. She will be remembered for her nurturing ways, kindness and caring for others.

Survivors include Ann's daughter, Patti Soileau (Chester), and grandchildren, Brandon Harris (Maribeth), Brooke Young (Andrew), Tiffany Dunn, Brenna Cleckley (Eric), Chase Gossett, and Erika Soileau.

Ann was great-grandmother to Alex Harris (Lauren), Caleb Harris, John Houston Harris, Drew Young, Abby Young, Anna Young, Anna Dunn, Kanden Cleckley, Kyra Cleckley, Kyleigh Gossett and Charlie Gossett, Maddox Davis and Wysten Davis. Ann was great-great-grandmother to Finley Harris.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Gossett, Jr.; her son, Ellis Gossett, III; her parents; and six brothers and sisters.

Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama will host visitation for friends on Sunday, July 2, 2023 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon. A private family graveside service will be held at the place of burial, Oakland/Brighton Memorial Gardens in Ensley, Alabama following visitation. Pastor Jim McCann and wife Becky (niece of Annie) will share words of encouragement and comfort for the family.
