Arlene Provost Slemmons

SLEMMONS, ARLENE L. age 85, of Birmingham, AL passed away Thursday morning, May 30, 2013. She was born January 24, 1928 in Hecla, SD. Arlene grew up on her parents' farm near Ellendale, ND. Upon graduation from nursing school, she married her high school sweetheart, Bart, and devoted her life to raising their family. A devoted wife and mother, Arlene was also a terrific cook and an avid golfer. After many wonderful retirement years in Pinehurst, NC, Arlene moved to Birmingham, AL to be closer to family. Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Barton Slemmons, formerly of Ellendale; parents, Henry and Sadie (Saari) Provost; infant brother, William; sister, Delores (Floyd) Young; and brother, Ronald (June) Provost. Survivors include Arlene and Bart's children, Steven (Shannon) Slemmons of Vestavia Hills, AL, Kirby (Sandra) Slemmons of Orange Park, FL, Kent (Cynthia) Slemmons of Hoover, AL, Jeff Slemmons of Pinehurst, NC, and Jane (Thomas) Albert of Ellicott City, MD; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and brother, Melvin (Betty) Provost of Nampa, ID. The family will greet guests one hour before the 11 a.m. memorial service Tuesday, June 4, 2013 in the chapel of Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org) or the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).
