Arthur Goss Fortenberry, Jr., of Hoover, Alabama, went to be with our Lord on May 11, 2023, after a long illness. AG was born on December 12, 1945, to the union of Arthur Goss Fortenberry, Sr., and Roxie Elnora Coker in Columbia, Mississippi. He received his formal education in Columbia Public Schools and Graduated from Columbia High School in 1964. He furthered his education at Pearl River Junior College in Poplarville, Mississippi, and Mississippi State University in Starkville, Mississippi, with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences. He was a Southern Baptist. AG was united in holy matrimony with Barbara Jean Graves on June 17, 1967, in Columbia Mississippi. Their union was blessed with two daughters.
He proudly served his country for over 22 years in the United States Army, retiring from Fort Rucker, Alabama, at the rank of Master Sergeant. He also retired from the United States Department of Agriculture in Enterprise, Alabama, as a Poultry Grader.
AG enjoyed reading, watching sports, and genealogy research. He was preceded in death by his mother and father. In addition to his wife, Barbara, AG leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Tammy Suzette Moon (Jeff) of Helena, Alabama, and Cynthia Renee Hereford of Hoover, Alabama; his grandchildren John Thomas-Arthur Conrad (Phoenix, Arizona), Bethany Suzette Cintron (Matthew) (Geneva County, Alabama), Kallie Jewel Moon (Clinton, Mississippi), and Olivia Faith Moon (Troy, Alabama); his great-grandchildren Lyla, Ella, Parker and Eli (Geneva County, Alabama); brother Charles Theodore Fortenberry (Marlene) (Orange, California); nieces and a nephew.
A private interment will be held at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to the American Lung Association.
